Pitt Football Unveils Throwback Uniforms For Homecoming Game

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Honoring tradition.

Pitt football has unveiled throwback uniforms dating back to the glory days, and a long ago national championship.

They'll take the field again, for the Homecoming game Oct. 8, and longtime fans and employees love it already.

"I like it a lot. I think it reminds me of the old days at Pitt, and Dan Marino," said one fan.

Forget the block letters of the past decade or so. The script is back, and at least for the Homecoming game, so are the original colors. What was old is new again.

It'll be a week, at least, before the jerseys are available at the Panthers team store in Petersen Events Center in Oakland.

But the electric blue and gold t-shirts and other apparel are already a hit.

"I think it's a good idea to have it at the Homecoming game, because there will be a lot of alumni there who like the old colors. So I think it's a really good idea," a fan said.

"When my mom went here that's the colors they had on the field, so it'll be nice to see that on the field too," added another fan.

Oddly enough, the boxy design that was intended to be more modern now appears just the opposite.

"We're going to make the stadium electric blue for Homecoming, and hopefully, everyone comes," said Jess Kennedy, the co-instructor of the Pitt Golden Girls. "Hail to Pitt!"
