Pittsburgh Police Recruit Arrested For Allegedly Abusing Wife

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Pittsburgh Police recruit has been arrested for allegedly abusing his wife.

Jabbar Karwan, 28, is accused of assaulting his wife in February. Karwan's wife reported the abuse during an interview with police this week.

According to the criminal complaint, detectives said the woman was hesitant to speak with them, because her husband threatened to kill her if she reported the abuse.

The victim also told police it is wrong for a woman to turn against her husband in her culture. When discussing the abuse, the victim reported Karwan pushed and shoved her. On one occasion, he allegedly choked her up against the wall and punched a hole in the wall to scare her.

Detectives reported the victim appeared to be in great fear. While trembling and crying, she allegedly told detectives that her husband is very smart and will follow her and kill her if she has him put in jail.

She also told police that they have been married for about six years and he has been abusive to her the entire time.

Karwan now faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats and stalking.

He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
