Pennsylvania Babysitter Jailed In Death Of Ex's 2-Year-Old

WOODLAND, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania woman has been jailed on charges she killed her ex-boyfriend's 2-year-old daughter while babysitting the girl nearly three years ago.

Twenty-one-year-old Jennifer Medzie was arrested Thursday on criminal homicide and other charges in the November 2013 death of Sophia Hoffman-Lauder.

Police say Medzie was watching the girl at a Bradford Township home on Nov. 15, 2013 when she reportedly went limp in Medzie's arms, only to have doctors later conclude the girl had been shaken violently. The girl died three days later in a Pittsburgh hospital.

The charges weren't filed until Thursday, because police had the case examined by the state Attorney General's Child Death Review Team, which investigates complicated cases involving alleged abuse.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Medzie, who faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 31.
