Karl Anger, 28, of the North Side, has been charged with kidnapping, robbery, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint and conspiracy. Chavel White, 32, also of the North Side, faces charges of kidnapping, robbery, and conspiracy.

At their arraignment Monday evening, Anger and White were denied bail, and a hearing was set for the pair on Nov. 14.

Around 4 p.m. Sunday, an individual told police that they had received a ransom call for an 18-year-old male relative.

The victim was believed to have been taken from the Elliot neighborhood after he planned to meet someone there to sell them two bricks of heroin.

He said when he entered the buyer's car, he was ordered to get down on the floor. They demanded $20,000 along with the heroin and forced him to make phone calls to family members asking for ransom money.

The alleged victim managed to escape and police located him on Morrison Street with minor injuries.
