New Kensington Shooting Victim Dies In Hospital

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) --- One man is dead after a shooting late Thursday night in New Kensington.

New Kensington police say the victim, Lorenzo Lewis, was found on the sidewalk near the Salvation Army, in New Kensington. He'd been shot at least once, in the chest.

The New Kensington police chief says their department never received any calls of shots fired.

The New Kensington police chief told KDKA someone walking along Fifth Avenue found the 22-year-old Lewis just before 10 p.m. Thursday.

The chief says officers rushed to the scene and called paramedics. Lewis was unresponsive.

He was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Harrison, where he was pronounced dead.

Family members and friends of Lewis posted pictures of him on social media. Lewis was found two blocks away from the New Kensington Police Department. Detectives interviewed two people who heard gunshots about 20 minutes before Lewis was found.

The police chief says shell casings were found on 11th Street, near the New Kensington Post Office. Police are reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation, but so far, they don't have any suspects.

The chief says police will be coming back to the scene where Lewis was found to search for more evidence. Anyone with information is asked to call New Kensington police.
