Police Go Door-To-Door, Warn Pitt Students As Number Of Break-Ins Grows
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police and University of Pittsburgh Police are implementing targeted patrols in Oakland after the number of break-ins in one neighborhood reached 20 over the weekend.
In the latest incident this weekend, someone broke into a home on Parkview Avenue. A laptop and other electronic items were stolen.
Police are now going door to door, alerting residents and tenants along Meyran Avenue and Semple Street about the incidents.
A lot of times, officers are finding the doors unlocked or even propped open.
Nick Berchock told KDKA's Kym Gable that officers came to warn him and his friends recently. Their door was open too.
"I mean, we were standing right there in the living room, but it was good they came by and let us know what is going on," said Berchock.

Adrianna Moyer was alarmed that the number of crimes has reached 20.
"A lot of the outside doors to buildings aren't locked a lot of the time. I know a lot of friends who don't lock theirs. It is definitely something to be aware of," she said.
