Candlelight Vigil Held For Victims Of Fatal N. Versailles Crash
PITCAIRN (KDKA) -- Hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil Sunday evening for the three people who were killed in a crash in North Versailles on Thanksgiving Day.
A tearful, emotional vigil organized by family and friends partially filled a ballfield in Pitcairn. They gathered to remember 28-year-old David Bianco, his fiancée, 21-year-old Kaylie Meininger, and her 2-year-old daughter, Annika.
The family was killed on Thanksgiving Day when a driver being chased by police crashed his car into their vehicle in North Versailles.
Tears flowed freely in the crowd, as the sense of an overwhelming loss permeated the somber gathering.
Bianco and Meininger were described as a loving, dedicated couple who each worked two jobs to try to improve their lives.
Bianco's uncle, Don Bianco, says he's been troubled since the day of the accident about the necessity of the high-speed police chase that led to the crash, following a traffic stop.
"Why you gotta go 100 miles an hour? [Police] have his name, his address... Why go 100 miles an hour on Thanksgiving Day, busiest day of the year? Why?" Bianco said.
The vigil ended with the release of lighted balloons over the crowd. Police estimated at least 400 people filled the ballfield for the memorial.
Family and friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral costs.
