Two Dogs Killed In Penn Hills House Fire
PENN HILLS (KDKA) -- Two dogs were killed in a Penn Hills house fire late Saturday morning.
The 2-alarm fire started around 11:30 a.m. at a home in the 100-block of Colonial Village Drive.
"Upon arrival, we encountered heavy fire and heavy smoke coming from the structure," North Bessemer Fire Department assistant fire chief David Zacchia said. "Neighbors called in reporting there was smoke coming out of the eaves of the house."
Five to six companies from Penn Hills and Monroeville responded to the 2-alarm fire.
"Some high winds through this area probably fueled it to get it going a little," Zacchia said. "[It had] a little bit of a head-start on us prior to our arrival."
Zacchia said due to the bulk of the fire, firefighters were unable to rescue two dogs from the home.
No one else was home at the time. Zacchia believed the residents had left within the last hour or so prior to the start of the fire.
One firefighter suffered a minor burn injury. He was treated on the scene and didn't require transportation to a hospital.
The Penn Hills fire marshal was on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
