COKEBURG, Pa. (KDKA) — An elderly woman died after a fire on Christmas Day at a home in Cokeburg, Washington County.

The woman’s husband was injured, but was able to escape. There was no immediate word on his condition.

The fire started around 3 p.m. Monday in the basement of the home on Prospect Street.

“The old guy that lives there, he was standing out on his back porch and he said he was looking for his wife,” said neighbor Jay Main. “His wife was still inside. By then all the smoke was coming out of all of the windows. There was flames coming out of the windows.”

Main said he tried unsuccessfully to get inside the home before firefighters arrived.

“I grabbed a sledgehammer from the back of my truck, knocked the front door in, tried to get in. We couldn’t get in there.”

The Washington County Coroner’s Office said Marguerite Pasqualucci, 84, perished in the fire.
