It’s that time again. The time when one more win is all it takes to keep going. Score just one more point than the opponent and the season rolls on.
Many times a stat sheet doesn’t tell the whole story, but it did tonight as Dayton (17-10, 7-6) defeated Duquesne (15-12, 6-7) 74-62 in a must-win game for both teams, as they stood tied in eighth place in the Atlantic 10.
Luckily for Duquesne (15-10, 6-5), the first 45 seconds of last night’s game, where the Fordham Rams (9-15, 2-9) grabbed four consecutive offensive rebounds and kicked the ball out for four uncontested 3-pointers, none of which were made, did not set the pace for the rest of the game.
Many things change from game to game, especially when over a month’s time has passed before taking on an opponent again. A team shoots better, a different player is more zoned in, calls go one way more than another and the variables go on. What you try to prepare for is what you know, and that’s exactly what Duquesne (14-9, 5-4) is doing going into their second meeting this season with St. Bonaventure (12-8, 5-4).
