Fallen Lower Burrell Officer Remembered At Candlelight Vigil

It was a sad and moving moment in Lower Burrell Sunday night as the widow and children of a fallen police officer thanked people gathered for a candlelight vigil held in his memory. Officer Derek Kotecki will be laid to rest Monday morning following a funeral mass, but Sunday there was a less formal gathering to honor the slain officer.

The death of Lower Burrell Police Officer Derek Kotecki has left a void in the community. He was shot and killed while trying to arrest 33-year-old Charlie Post outside the Dairy Queen on Greensburg Road in Lower Burrell on Wednesday.

Westmoreland Co. DA: Officers Knew Post Was A Threat

The investigation continues today after a veteran police officer was shot and killed Wednesday evening outside of a restaurant in Lower Burrell. The fallen police officer has been identified as Officer Derek Kotecki, a K-9 officer with the Lower Burrell Police Department in Westmoreland County.

Community Mourns Fallen Lower Burrell Officer

Friends and family of Officer Derek Kotecki are mourning today following the shooting outside the Dairy Queen in Lower Burrell that claimed his life. The flag outside the Lower Burrell Police Station has been lowered to half-staff in honor of Officer Kotecki.
