Teenagers (and these days pre-teens, too) can be even more expensive to outfit than babies and young kids. Not only are they still growing, and therefore regularly changing sizes, but now you also have to deal with the pressure of your kids wanting the same hip clothing brands and items that their BFF is wearing. Plato’s Closet focuses specifically on “trendy” resale clothing for older kids and teenagers, and has multiple locations in Pittsburgh. Xhilaration, Billabong, Bebe, Forever 21 and Jessica Simpson are just a few of the name brands being sold at Plato’s Closet. Bring your mini-adults here to shop and you might just gain “cool mom” status… even if just for a day.

Just Between Friends

Just Between Friends of Pittsburgh North hosts children’s and maternity consignment events in the spring & fall in clean and organized rotating venues. Only high quality and safe items are sold, and a unique online tagging system is used by consignors to provide an accurate and efficient system. This process allows consignors to be paid in a timely manner at the end of the events, and also lets them earn 65% profit from their sold items, which is more than the standard 40-50% that consignment shops often offer. Consignors also have the option of volunteering at the events to earn 70% on their sales and get first dibs at shopping during the presales. Consignors, first-time parents, teachers and military families have access to the presale events as well! The last day offers shoppers 50% off on much of the remaining merchandise. For upcoming sale dates and locations, visit Just Between Friends of Pittsburgh North.

Families living on a tight budget can discover more ways to experience Pittsburgh and save money by visiting the Family & Kids section of You can also check out their full list of Pittsburgh kids resale locations.

I can’t believe you didn’t mention Once Upon a Child. The new North Hills store (formerly in Wexford) is absolutely huge. The North Hills and Monroeville locations have been operating for 15 or 16 years. I have shopped & sold there for my daughters and now for my grandchildren. Love it.

glad to see you didn’t include once upon a child. they buy next to nothing their stock they do have is old, piled and stained and the staff attitudes are horrendous. Good riddance!

    JBF and hasbin is AWESOME!

the North Pittsburgh Mother’s of Multiples sale, which happens in March and September is amazing! If you arrive early, the selection is incredible.

I swear by Goes Round Comes Round…its in Rt. 8 almost at 228 on the right side

I completely agree with comments about Once Upon a Child. I have repeatedly tried to take my gently used items there that are name brand such as gymboree, baby gap, etc. and from an entire tote they might take 2-4 things. It’s a waste of my time. They never have anything in the sizes I am looking for and I don’t see why they don’t take the good stuff I bring in? The main reason: they already have too many of “that style” in inventory. Really? Where??

I agree with formercitygirl. I’ve taken several bags of items to Once Upon a Child and they only took 4-5 items. I was told that everything was either stained or out of date. My child is only 2. How can the items be out of date?? As for the stains, some of the items were not worn at all (tags still on it) and they still didn’t take them. I don’t know what their criteria is on their clothes but they certainly are very picky.
