Jury Selection Continues In Trial Of Man Accused In Deaths Of 3 Officers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Jury selection continues today in Harrisburg for the trial of Richard Poplawski, the man accused in a standoff and the deaths of three Pittsburgh police officers in 2009.

Ten jurors had been selected. They want 12 jurors plus six alternates for the two-week trial.

Poplawski is charged in an April 2009 standoff at a home in Stanton Heights. Three police officers, Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo II all died while responding to the domestic call at the Fairfield Street home.

Four men and three women were selected for the jury on Tuesday. Attorneys interviewed the first of 40 potential jurors.

The jury is being selected in Dauphin County and will be brought back to Pittsburgh for the trial.

The trial is expected to begin on June 20 in Pittsburgh.
