Heat Wave To Continue Through Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It's a good old fashioned heat wave for the Pittsburgh area, over the next few days.

It will be hazy, hot and humid, today, with a high of 92 degrees and an afternoon heat index in the upper 90s.

With patchy clouds, the low tonight will level off at about 70 degrees.

An Air Quality Alert is in effect, due to the buildup of pollutants. Those with respiratory ailments are advised to stay indoors in air conditioning as much as possible.

An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for Thursday, as the high is expected to reach 96 degrees and the heat index will reach 105 or hotter.

There is no break in sight for several days either.

The high on Friday also reaches 96 degrees and temperatures should be in the low to mid 90s over the weekend.

There is a chance for isolated thunderstorms, Friday through Sunday, but nothing that would bring widespread relief to the region.

During a heat wave such as this, you are advised to minimize your exposure time during the peak heating of the day.

Slow down, wear light-weight, light-colored clothing to reflect sunlight. If you don't have air conditioning, spend time at a shopping center, library or other location that has it.
