Labs Take Top Dog Honors In Allegheny County
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Labrador is once again top dog in Allegheny County.
The Post-Gazette reports that dog license data from the Allegheny County Treasurer's office shows that of the 100,000 registered dogs in the county, the Labrador retriever is number one.
Rounding out the top four, the golden retriever is second, beagles are third, Shih Tzus are fourth.
No surprise that Labs took the top spot, experts say: They've capped national surveys for more than 20 years. But the runners-up may suggest a shift in preferences.
The paper also reports that, "Buddy" is the most popular name in the Allegheny County suburbs. That's followed by Max, Bella, Bailey and Molly.
Less-affluent ZIP codes also favored names like "Duke," "Bear," and "Misty"; wealthier neighborhoods stuck to the countywide standbys.
