Wind Chill Advisory In Effect As Cold Temps Persist

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Winter still has its cold, icy grip on our area and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.

According to the National Weather Service, another Wind Chill Advisory will be in effect overnight from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Wind chill temperatures could be as low as 15 degrees below zero.

With temperatures that low, concerns about frostbite and hypothermia grow. So, if you have to venture outside, be sure to dress in layers.

"We'll start off the day with temperatures below zero in many locations," said KDKA Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla.

Last week, the cold temperatures broke records that had stood since 1936.

Tuesday, we could break a record that has stood since 1914.

The forecasted overnight low of minus-2 degrees would tie that record, but Bowman said we could break it.

Later Tuesday, temperatures will warm up to 25 degrees with some sun and clouds. The rest of the week will stay cold with sunshine expected most days.

"A lot of cold air in place across the eastern half of the country," Verszyla said. "Temporarily, [Tuesday], we'll reverse things, pull up some slightly milder air from the south, which will allow temperatures to climb into the 20s. The main storm track though is passing well to our south, that's where all the [precipitation] is rolling through parts of the deep south, it's going to move right through the Carolinas. No concerns here, high pressure has carved out a nice little dry niche and that will be with us a least for the next 24 hours."
