With winter in full swing and snow and ice covering the Pittsburgh area, it's hard to keep up with your golf game. After all, you can't swing the club very well when you're ankle or even knee deep in snow and ice. Fortunately, keeping up with your golf game doesn't rely on nice, warm weather for the outdoors; Pittsburgh has plenty of places for you to hit the green indoors. Here are some of the best local indoor driving ranges to hold you over until the spring thaw.

Robert Morris University Island Sports Center
7600 Grand Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15225
(412) 397-3335

Robert Morris University's Island Sports Center has plenty to offer golfers of all ages, from use of their driving range to private lessons and even a Learn to Golf Academy. They also offer outdoor mini golf. But best of all, the 100-yard indoor golf dome is climate-controlled to stay at 70 degrees year-round with an inflatable 75-foot ceiling and netting covering the dome. It has the longest uninterrupted shot for an indoor range in the country. Bucket fees range from $6 to $14, with a discount for Pittsburgh Golfers Tour members, and annual memberships are also available. Hours vary by day, so you'll want to check their website ahead of time.

Pennsylvania Golf Academy
50 Pine Creek Road
Wexford, PA 15090
(412) 376-GOLF

This state-of-the-art academy and training facility is staffed by top PGA professionals who provide instruction tailored to your needs. Their amenities include over 50 bays, a chipping green, plus 35 covered tees. Pennsylvania Golf Academy also offers both outdoor and indoor putting greens, allowing you to keep working on your short game throughout winter. Although the range is typically only open when the academy's pro shop is open, patrons can get discounts and access to the range all week by purchasing a range key.

Cool Springs
1530 Hamilton Road
Bethel Park, PA 15234
(412) 831-5080

Okay, so Cool Springs' driving ranges aren't quite indoors, but they are covered and heated, keeping you warm and sheltered from the elements so you can work on your game, although weather can affect hours of operation. Cool Springs also offers multiple simulators and mini golf, plus lessons from PGA professional golfers. For a drink and a bite to eat when you're done brushing up on your golf game, stop by the Fairway Grille.
