Does It Really Do That? Style Snaps

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Changing hems can be a pain.

It takes time to do it yourself. It also takes time and money to take your pants or skirt to a pro for help.

You may have seen the commercial for a popular new product called Style Snaps, which claims to make hemming a breeze.

The women inventors work in New York and created Style Snaps because they were sick of changing out of heels to flats to walk to lunch, and having their pants get dirty and torn from dragging on the ground.

They wanted to live in a world where they could change their hem as often as they changed their shoes, and they say Style Snaps allow you to do that and more!

But, Does It Really Do That?

Tricia Egry has a big closet full of shoes, which are neatly organized. The busy marketing director would tell you herself that she's a bit vertically challenged, but she doesn't let that stop her from dressing the way she wants.

She admits though, it gets expensive.

"I mean, I would love to have a pair of pants that I can wear and be versatile with multiple pairs of shoes, but again, I buy more pants for days if I'm wearing wedges or flats or boots or really high heels," Egry said.

Egry's shoe collection makes her a perfect tester for Style Snaps.

The tiny thin plastic strips have an adhesive backing, and they snap into each other, allowing you to raise or lower your hem as needed. Egry tried them out first on a dressy pair of pants.

Following the directions, she turned the pants inside out and positioned the hem. The next step is to peel and stick the Style Snaps.

"It sticks, but it's obviously not as nice of a hem as when you would iron, or steam it," Egry said.

From the underside, you can see the hem sags a bit in between where the Style Snaps are positioned. However, at a normal view, the hem looks even which allows Egry to wear the pants with heels or flats.

The snaps are supposed to be reusable, up to at least 10 times with the proper care.

But wait, there's more! Style Snaps claim to be able to help with other things, like belts and lapels.

KDKA-TV's Jennifer Antkowiak bought the package of 16 Style Snaps at a Bed Bath and Beyond for about $10, hoping it would live up to its claim of being an easy, reusable, fabric-safe fix for a variety of wardrobe issues.

Does It Really Do That?

"It doesn't have as great of a hem as you would if you'd take them to get them done and they would steam it, but for vacation, for that quick fix, I think it works," Egry said.
